1997 Carver 500

About the 1997 Carver 500

Enjoy a leisurely drive into Cowichan Bay with five of your favourite people (or leave ‘em behind for some personal time). Park in your highly coveted, but private parking spot. Walk through the delightful village to the general store and grab some beer and wine and last-minute groceries. Don’t forget to stop in at the world-class bakery for ridiculously delicious pastries. Then, head for the boat that’s in the liveaboard slip you assumed when you bought it.

Bring your sunglasses because this boat is so clean, it sparkles. There are so many windows, it’s as bright as the outdoors. Take your shoes off because you’ll want to feel all the plush carpet between your toes. Stow about twenty truckloads of stuff in the massive amounts of cupboards, closets, nooks, and crannies. Assume your position at the helm, let loose the lines, use the bow thruster to maneuver out of the marina, and find that fishing hole fast with those twin Cummins diesels with 840 horses galloping away in the engine room. Drop a line, drop a trap, cook it up in a galley with more countertop space than most condos, and have service for six around the dinette with a view of the pristine Gulf Islands.

After dinner, enjoy sundowners on the cockpit or the flybridge. Throw the kids overboard because it’s time to get them off the Starlink-connected screens and into the water. Hose ‘em down on the swim grid with the hot/cold shower. Clean their clothes in the washer and dryer. While that’s happening, grab yourself a glass of wine and some bubble bath and enjoy a soak in the tub. Finally, crawl on top of that new mattress in the master stateroom and sleep like a baby.

When you woke up this morning, this was just a dream. But when you wake up tomorrow, this dream boat could be your reality. All you have to do is call.

Step off the dock, onto the swim grid, and through a transom door into the cockpit. To port are stairs to the flybridge, to starboard are stairs down to the master stateroom. The bed in the stateroom can be accessed from either side, and there are plenty of drawers and lockers. Aft is a changing bench below a sliding glass patio door, looking into the cockpit. To the starboard is an ensuite with a standalone shower, deep basin, and electric flush toilet. From the stateroom, you can go forward into the saloon, or you can return to the cockpit and up the stairs to the glass-enclosed sunroom.

Here, you will find a full-function bar with a fridge, icemaker, and sink, the perfect place to relax with a sundowner. There are two plexiglass wing doors to access side decks to bow, and there are 3 steps leading up to the flybridge.

The flybridge is fully enclosed by glass windows, with side vents and opening windows. There is space to walk entirely around the helm, with bench seats forward of it, and a bench seat with a raised captain’s seat aft of it. The panel is clean, and chock-a-block full of all the instrumentation you need to get from here to there safely.

Stepping back down into the saloon, to your immediate left (port) is the U-shaped galley, and to the right are the stairs to the master stateroom. Against the hull to starboard, beneath the windows, is a tallish cupboard next to a recessed TV. The saloon settee & dining seating settee are leather.

The galley is spacious and well-designed for ease of use and storage. The fridge and microwave/convection oven are aft, with the sink under the sliding window to port, then forward-facing is a long countertop with ample cupboards above and below.

Forward of the galley is a U-shaped dinette for a seating of six. Opposite on the starboard side is a long settee. These seats are plush leather and light in colour, making for a bright and rich-feeling room where you will be delighted to dine and chill.

There is a staircase of 3 steps situated between the dinette and settee that takes you down to two more staterooms. A guest stateroom is to port with two bunkbeds, a hanging locker, and an opening porthole. The bunks can convert to a sofa making a settee for the VIP stateroom. There are three skylights built into the forward area bringing natural light into the guest stateroom, the hall, and the head.

The VIP stateroom has a queen bed with 2-sided access, ample storage, two opening portholes, a TV, and an ensuite. There is also an opening hatch for light, air, and escape. The ensuite has a soaker tub and shower (yup, that read “soaker tub”), an electric-flush toilet, and vanity with sink. From here, there is private access to both the guest stateroom and the head.
