About the 1978 Cape Dory Intrepid 35

The Intrepid 35 is recognized for its beautiful lines, exceptional construction and sailing ability. Designed by McCurdy & Rhodes as a fast, capable cruiser, the Cruising Club of America recommended it for shorthanded offshore sailing. This one has been owned and sailed by the same family since it was first launched.

“Tai Li” features a modified fin keel with a skeg-hung rudder and has several good upgrades, including

  • Engine removed and rebuilt in 2024, 25hrs since.

  • Newer canvas

  • Windlass

  • New bottom paint, zincs and prop speed (fall 2025)

  • Spectra Watermaker - requires servicing

Accomodation

The interior layout is designed for comfort at sea with a classic interior and finishings.

  • Forward Cabin: Features a large queen-sized V-berth.

  • Salon: Includes a fold-down table and a cozy Dickinson Newport propane cabin heater.

  • Starboard Settee: Full length; converts to a single bunk.

  • Port Settee: Converts to a double berth.

  • Nav Station: Located to port with a quarter berth behind it.

  • Storage: Hanging locker to starboard forward; ample storage throughout.

  • Head: Spacious head located to port forward.

Domestic Equipment

  • Galley Stove: Force 10 propane stove top and oven.

  • Refrigeration: Frigoboat W35 condenser and compressor with keel coolers installed in the icebox.

  • Watermaker: Spectra 150 12v watermaker.

  • Heating: Dickinson Newport propane heater.

  • Water System: Two polyethylene fresh water tanks (approx. 60 gallons total). Manual pumps for fresh water at the galley and head.

  • Toilet: Jabsco marine head with a 14-gallon holding tank and Y-valves (fully compliant).

Sails and Rigging

Mast & Rig: Aluminum keel-stepped mast and boom; stainless steel standing rigging (New 2002).

Winches:

  • 2 x Lewmar 44 three-speed winches (headsail).

  • 2 x ARCO 30 winches (cockpit coaming for drifter/spinnaker).

  • 2 x Lewmar 30 winches (mast-mounted for reefing/halyards).

Sails:

  • Main sail (Good condition).

  • Genoa (Good condition).

  • Storm Jib.

Furling: Harken headsail furling system.

Hardware: Garhauer main traveller (cockpit-mounted); Mast-mounted spinnaker pole; Boom vang.

Canvas: Main sail cover (New 2022); Dodger (New 2023).

Machinery

Engine: Yanmar 3GM30F-93 (27 HP) Diesel.

Rebuilt in February 2024; approx. 25 hours on rebuild (3,050) hours total on meter.

The engine was disassembled to the block

All components inspected and replaced or rebuilt as required, including new seals, gaskets, rings, push rods, control cables, etc. Incectors were reconditioned in 2023, and a new water pump was installed. Work orders available.

Transmission: Kanzaki KM3V V-drive.

Propulsion: Stainless steel 1-inch shaft with a Max Prop self-feathering propeller.

Fuel System: 25-gallon alloy tank; single-cartridge Racor primary fuel filter.

Electrical

House Battery Bank: 4 x 6v Canada Proof batteries (wired in series/parallel).

Start Battery: G24 12v battery.

Charging:

  • Statpower Truecharge 40+ AC battery charger.

  • 2 x 100-watt solar panels mounted on aft stainless arch.
