Grey Pearl is a classic Ocean Alexander 50 Mark I, a highly regarded West Coast cruising trawler designed by Ed Monk Jr. and built in 1978. Known for its solid construction, practical layouts, and long‑range capability, the Ocean Alexander 50 remains one of the most respected semi‑displacement cruisers ever made. This vessel has been well cared for, stored in a boathouse for many years, and thoughtfully equipped for comfortable coastal cruising. There is a reason why so many are cruising the Pacific Northwest.

Features

Accomodation

The two-cabin layout provides separation between living and sleeping areas, with access points from both the pilothouse and main salon. 

Cockpit & Deck Access: Entry to the boat is available via starboard and port side doors or through the transom door from the swim grid. The good-sized cockpit is self-draining with plenty of room for seats and provides access to the main salon via double doors. A Portuguese bridge forward offers cushioned seating and leads to an unobstructed foredeck. The side decks are covered with high gunwales and are comfortable to walk around the boat. 

Salon: The main salon is open to the galley. Interior finish includes teak parquet cabin soles, teak joinery and paneling, and granite counter surfaces. Furnishings include a couch, tub chair, ottoman, and a teak bar and U-Line ice maker port forward.  A cozy Sigmar diesel fireplace with a granite surround is located in the aft corner.

Owners’ Stateroom: The owners’ stateroom features a queen-size island berth with a spring coil mattress, side tables and reading lights. There is a vanity with a mirror, closets, and plenty of drawers providing lots of space. The en suite head includes a Vacu-Flush toilet, tub-style shower stall, marble counters, sink, and cabinets.

Guest Stateroom: Forward, the guest cabin contains three single bunk berths (two port, one starboard) with foam mattresses, hanging locker, and drawer storage.

A guest head located aft is fitted with an electric toilet, marble counter, laminate finishes with teak trim, and a tub shower.


Pilothouse

The pilothouse is what makes this vessel stand out. The helm features a single leather pilot chair, full instrumentation, and all-around window visibility. There is also a large elevated dinette behind the helm station, making it an incredibly comfortable and social place to spend your days cruising. 

There are dual side doors providing immediate access to the side decks and great ventilation.

On Deck

The Ocean Alexander 50 MK 1 is well known for its convenient, safe and functional deck layout.

From the dock, the boat can be entered by port or starboard side doors as well as a door from the swim grid into the cockpit.

The side decks are wide and have high bulwarks for safety in rough weather, and are covered from just behind the pilothouse doors into the cockpit. Combined with the cockpit aft and Portuguese Bridge forward, you also have a safe racetrack for kids, grandkids and pets.

Forward is the Portuguese Bridge with wrap-around seating with custom cushions. It will quickly become your new happy place. It includes an external helm station on the port side with steering and engine controls. There is a centre door leading to the forward deck.

The forward deck has enough space for lounge chairs and easy access to the anchor, anchor windlass and washdown hose.

There is also a custom bracket for pulling pots utilizing the windlass.

The aft cockpit is large enough for comfortable seating and provides lazarrette storage as well as access to the upper deck via a ladder.

The upper deck has a custom radar arch for mounting radar and antennas, as well as a custom StarLink mount.

There is plenty of space for kayak and SUP storage, as well as the Achilles tender and a Nick Jackson 1000 LB davit System

Mechanical

Reliable Ford Lehman diesel engines are efficient, strong, and long-lasting.

The original steel tanks have been replaced with stainless steel fuel tanks for additional piece of mind.

The Northern Lights 8 KW Generator provides plenty of power for running the appliances on board.

The engine room is clean and tidy with plenty of space around the engines for maintenance.
