1989 Sadler 34

Introduction

About the 1989 Sadler 34

One of the nicest things about the Sadler 34 is just how nice it looks. It has a sweet, clean hull line, swept back stem with a mirrored reverse transom. It’s a look that will never go out of style because it just works. The bimini, radar arch, and wind generator pole are at the same height as the boom, once again lending to a sense of balance.

The Sadler 34 was built to be a comfortable offshore cruiser. Many have done circumnavigations as well as ‘round the world races. With its unique hull that is double-walled fiberglass with closed-cell foam forced in between, it’s incredibly strong and considered unsinkable. The hull is thick, well insulated, quiet, and will not suffer condensation. Furthermore, in 2004 , a new Yanmar 3GM30 was installed, and the original keel was replaced with a shallow, swept-back fin keel, perfect for the Bahamas, canals of Europe, or shallows of the Salish Sea.

The cockpit is generous and surrounds you in teak which is in good condition. The decks are clean and open. With a roller furling foresail, a Stack-Pac for the main, and all lines led aft, it’s an easy boat to sail.

Inside, accommodations are comfortable and classic. The teak trim, teak and holly sole, and quality upholstery lend to an atmosphere of classic comfort. The galley is well designed, with ample food prep space, deep sink, a front-loading fridge, and gimballed 2-burner stove. You can seat six for dinner, whether you sit in the cockpit with sundowners or at the table in the saloon. There are two private staterooms, plus the settees can be made into one- and two-person berths.

Whether on passage, on anchor, or at the dock, this is a boat the will impress for any number of reasons. She’s well designed and has been well looked after.

Layout & Description

The companionway is two comfortably wide, stout steps mounted on the removable front of the engine compartment. The top step is handy to the galley so adds counterspace.

There are three separate cabins. The V-berth is spacious and comfortable with an infill piece. There is a large hatch for light, ventilation, and escape.

Aft of that is the head to port with pressurized hot and cold water, a shower with sump, and manual flush head. A tannoy vent is in the deckhead for ventilation. There is ample storage for toiletries and hanging your wet things.

The main saloon has a C-shaped settee to port that wraps around a two-leaf table with bottle stowage. This settee can convert to a double berth, 6’ 2” (1.58 m) long. To starboard there is a bench settee fitted with a lee cloth. Laying down here, you can place your feet under the navigation table, thus extending the berth to 6’ 7” (2 m). Grabrails line the length of the saloon on both sides.

There is a U-shaped galley aft of the saloon on the port side. It is utilitarian, with ample food prep space, one-and-a-half sinks, gimbled 2-burner stove with oven, front-opening fridge, a huge icebox moulded into the countertop, and many details that will make any cook a happy cook.

Starboard, across from the galley is the navigation table with stowage beneath and several navigation instruments surrounding it. There is more stowage under the seat.

Beside the nav station is a door accessing the aft cabin. This is a smallish cabin with a berth that can sleep two kids, or two adults who are quite friendly with each other.
