1989 William Garden Center Cockpit Ketch

Introduction

About the 1989 William Garden Center Cockpit Ketch

This is a very, rare deal.

The current owner purchased this beauty in 2022 because of its robust construction, sea-kindly and safe hull. The intention was to sail off over the horizon. The pre-purchase survey valued the boat at $140,000 in 2022. Since then the owner has been upgrading the vessel thoughtfully as well as thoroughly sea trialing the boat along the way to ensure everything would work as planned.

New standing rigging, running rigging, lithium batteries, charging system, inverter, and watermaker to name some of the upgrades.

Since 2022, almost $100,000 has gone into upgrades and maintenance to ensure the vessel was ready to head offshore.

Unfortunately, the owner has had to change their plans of offshore cruising due to health reasons and needs to sell. If you understand serious cruising boats, you’ll understand the value in this boat.

AITHERIOS is a solid offshore cruiser that is ready to go. You might want to add a sea anchor and attach the Jack lines, but after that, one trip to Costco should do it. The owner has put in a load of upgrades and has serviced every winch on board as well as re-fastened and recaulked the deck and re-bedded all deck hardware.

The wide, spacious decks are teak and in good condition. The engine has great access to multiple sides, runs well and can be expected to travel many more miles. The interior is spacious and comfortable, with a warehouse of storage. The V-berth has been converted into a workshop that will put a grin on the face of anyone who likes to get their hands dirty. The aft cabin is huge with lots of storage, a desk, an en-suite head and a shower stall. The sails are in good shape and the Keypower bow thruster makes maneuvering around the docks less stressful.

It comes complete with a full set of tools to maintain and fix almost everything on board. This is a rare find and one anyone considering heading offshore should see.

Cosmetically, the décor is unique. You might love it, or you might want to make it your own. If it’s not to your taste, look beyond the veneer to see the value. This is a solid boat and will take you safely across oceans. Give us a call to see her in person.

Layout & Description

From the center cockpit, one can enter the aft stateroom via double doors. There’s a hatch over the stateroom for light, air, and escape. The stateroom hosts a queen berth, a nav table with an electrical panel, and a full head with a separate shower with a rain shower head. There is another door in the shower that leads to the tool room as well as engine room access.

A portside passageway is lined with storage and leads to the galley. The inboard side of the longitudinal bulkhead has a large removable hatch giving access to the side of the engine room. Access to the engine and genset is outstanding.

There are double doors to the forward companionway. This drops into the galley to port and a dinette to starboard. The galley has a large sink midships with electric fresh and saltwater faucets, induction stove, air fryer/oven, and Novakool front-loading fridge. An overhead hatch helps to vent, and there are windows all around. The dinette can seat 5 or 6 and makes down into a bed. Forward of this area is a lounging saloon with a settee to port and diesel heater to starboard. There is storage just aft of the heater, under and behind the settee.

Forward of this is the head to port, across from yet more storage. The head has a freshwater manual-flush toilet, basin, hot/cold electric running water, and a large mirror.

Forward of the head, the owner has converted the V-berth into a workshop. This incredible space has more than a dozen drawers, a massive bench, and poly pegboard on which to hang baskets and tools for easy access and storage. It’s a DIYer’s dream.

There are 4 closets and 34 interior storage compartments. Tall people are welcome here, with great headroom.

The décor is, unique. You might love the quirky style, but if it’s not to your taste, try to see beyond cosmetics to the solid bones and incredible value. Once you buy it, design it like you own it.
