1994 Bayliner 2858 Command Bridge

Introduction

About the 1994 Bayliner 2858 Command Bridge

If you’re looking for a boat that can do it all for your family and friends, this 2858 Command Bridge is a solid choice. It has many of the desirable features of a larger boat at a fraction of the cost. A well-designed layout makes this a fantastic 2-4-6 boat. 2 people for multiple days, 4 people for dinner and 6 people for cocktails.

Command Bridge

The elevated second steering station on top of the cabin, as well as comfortable seating, make the command bridge the best seats in the house. Everyone can sit up top and get a 360-degree view for spotting wildlife and enjoying our beautiful coastline. When the weather turns, you simply duck downstairs into the main cabin.

Main cabin

The forward V-berth is larger than expected. The dinette seats 4 comfortably for meals and can convert to a bed as needed. There’s also a double bed on the floor under the dinette. Although some folks will use it for sleeping, the space is usually used for storage, which is significant. It will easily accommodate multiple inflatable SUPs, clothes, food, coolers or anything else you may bring. With a full galley and a stand-up head with a shower, you can comfortably spend time in Desolation Sound.

Cockpit/Back Deck

This is the activity zone. It’s made for fishing, setting up a couple of deck chairs, or getting on and off the swim grid. The wide-open space means no one is tripping over each other, and the high sides keep all the little ones safely on board. It’s ideal for swimming, launching a dinghy, or just relaxing while tied up at the dock.

The moorage is assumable with management approval at the desirable Ladysmith Marina.

Features

Accomodation

This 2858 is renowned for its intelligent and spacious layout, offering superior comfort for a vessel of its size. The design aptly blends all-weather capability with open-air enjoyment.

Command Bridge: The upper helm provides 360-degree visibility and seating for 4-5, making it the perfect social center for cruising and sightseeing.

Enclosed Cabin: The main cabin features a starboard side helm station and a convertible dinette to port that can sleep two, offering a warm, dry, and comfortable space in any weather.

Aft Cabin/Storage A double berth is located under the dinette, a rare feature that provides a separate sleeping area or incredible storage.

Forward V-berth: A large forward berth provides lots of space for sleeping.

Large Aft Cockpit: The huge, self-bailing cockpit is ideal for fishing, swimming, or simply relaxing, providing easy access to the swim grid and dinghy.

Domestic Equipment

The galley and head are fully equipped for extended weekends aboard.

Galley: Features a two-burner ORIGO 4300 alcohol stove (safe and non-pressurized) and a 120VAC toaster oven. Ample counter space and storage.

Refrigeration: A 12VDC NORCOLD refrigerator under the dinette keeps provisions cold without needing shore power.

Hot Water & Heat: A 22.7-liter Atwood water heater provides hot water via 120VAC shore power or engine heat. A bus heater tapped into the engine coolant warms the cabin quickly once you’re way.

Head: A fully moulded stand-up head compartment includes a vanity sink and a telephone shower. The system includes a 20-gallon holding tank with a macerator pump and deck pump-out.

Electrical

The vessel features an electrical system for both dockside and off-grid comfort.

Shore Power: 30A Marinco shore power inlet with a main breaker, reverse polarity indicator, and GFCI-protected outlets for safety.

Batteries & Charging: Two 12V deep-cycle batteries (Group SRM24, 690 Amp-Hours each) are secured in the port engine space, powered by a Guest 15-amp automatic battery charger.

Protection: A Guest battery isolation switch and branch circuit breakers provide organized and safe power management.

Charger: Ready AMP 15

Navigation

The electronics suite has been updated with modern, reliable equipment.

Primary Navigation: Lowrance Elite-7 HDI chartplotter at the main helm provides essential navigation data.

Communication: Standard Horizon Eclipse VHF radio ensures reliable communication.

Instrumentation: Full instrumentation at both helm stations includes a speedometer, tachometer, temperature, oil pressure, and voltmeter.

Backup: Ritchie compasses at both helms.

Ground Tackle and Additional Items

The boat is equipped with reliable ground tackle for secure overnight stays and a solid tender and outboard.

Anchor: A trusted 10 kg (22 lb) Bruce anchor provides excellent holding power in various bottoms.

Rode: A Combination of chain and  3-strand nylon rope for durability and shock absorption.

Deck Gear: Robust stainless steel bow roller and deck cleats.

Tender: 2015 Walker Bay 7’6” inflatable.

Outboard: Mercury 3.5HP

Davit: Weaver Davits with stand-off arms

Canvas: Command bridge cover with stainless steel center pole support.

Swim Grid: Moulded fibreglass with a stainless steel re-boarding ladder.

Mechanical

Robust and reliable Mercruiser 7.4 Litre SDI 454. With lots of great recent servicing, although she has lots of hours, it has what anyone could want. Good maintenance.

Recent Services

  • August 2025: Complete Exhaust System Overhaul. Both exhaust manifolds and riser spacers were replaced, along with all associated gaskets and seals. The cooling system was refilled with new antifreeze. This critical service eliminates common failure points on freshwater-cooled engines.

  • May 2025: Cooling System Service. The system was flushed, the heat exchanger descaled with Rydlyme, and a new thermostat installed. The engine was tested for overheating and leaks; none were found.

  • August 2024: Drive Service & Belt Replacement. Outdrive was pulled. U-joints, gimbal bearing, bellows, and drive seals were inspected and/or replaced. Gear lube was changed, and a new full anode kit was installed. All engine belts (alternator, power steering) were replaced.
