Introduction

About the 1979 Cheoy Lee 44 Ketch

The Cheoy Lee 44 Ketch stands as a testament to timeless design and exceptional craftsmanship. With its solid fiberglass hull, encapsulated keel, classic ketch rig, and reliable Perkins diesel engine, this vessel promises a sailing experience that blends classic elegance with strength and reliability.

The spacious interior layout, featuring rich wood and ample storage, provides a cozy retreat for extended cruising. Moreover, the yacht’s heavy construction and well-balanced, time-tested design ensure a smooth and stable ride, minimizing discomfort in heavier seas.

The previous owner refitted the boat for offshore travel between 2006 and 2009 including new masts, standing rigging, rebuilt engine, new through hulls, and a renewal of the bottom including drying out, new barrier coat, and bottom paint. All said about $85,000 USD was spent to bring the boat up to a reliable offshore cruising standard.

The boat was kept in freshwater from 2010 to 2021 when it was brought to Nanaimo.

In 2021 she went through a complete electrical audit and systems were replaced as recommended. New batteries, wiring, inverter/charger, and control panel were added.

There is a lot to love and respect about this vessel.

Features

Accomodation

Stepping below is entering a world of rich wood, cozy spaces, and comfort.

As you drop down the companionway stairs, you will see a long settee to starboard then the nav station. To port is a door to the aft cabin. Forward of that cabin is a head. Forward of that is the galley. Forward of the galley and nav station is the saloon with two long settees graced in elegant black upholstery lining each side with a table between them. Forward of the saloon is a head to port and large hanging locker to starboard, and then the V-berth.

The living area is open and well-appointed with ample teak and fine fabrics. The sole and trim are teak, creating the kind of warmth that can only be achieved from fine wood. Overhead is a cream colour, surrounded by ample windows, creating a bright and comfortable space. There is a dorade vent midships and three hatches for ample circulation in warm climates.

The galley is cleverly designed with ample food prep space, storage, and ventilation. The staterooms have berths to comfortably accommodate two with ample storage spaces. The heads have manual flush toilets, teak grates, basins, countertops, and opening portholes.
