Features

Accomodation

Description & Layout:
Delphina features a spacious and intelligently designed interior layout perfect for a couple or family. The walk-through reverse transom (sugar scoop stern) provides easy water access. The layout flows from a private forepeak V-berth cabin forward, through a large main salon with a convertible U-shaped dinette and settee, to a private aft stateroom with a huge berth.

Features & Benefits:

  • Spacious Main Salon: The U-shaped dinette converts to a double berth, offering a generous social and dining area. The opposing settee provides additional seating and sea berths.

  • Private Aft Stateroom: A valuable feature on a 35-foot yacht, providing an isolated and peaceful retreat away from the main living area.

  • Ample Storage: Numerous hanging lockers, drawers, and cabinetry throughout, finished in classic teak-faced plywood and Arborite countertops for easy maintenance.

  • Bright & Airy Interior: Fixed and opening acrylic port lights, along with deck hatches and the companionway hatch, ensure excellent ventilation and natural light.

  • Protected Cockpit: A deep, safe cockpit with molded seating for all crew, surrounded by high coamings. It is protected by a canvas dodger and a bimini top with a connecting piece to keep the sun and rain out.

Sails and Rigging

Delphina is configured as a fractional rig sloop, a design known for its manageable sail plan and excellent performance. The rigging is robust and set up for easy shorthanded sailing.

  • Sails: The inventory includes a mainsail, roller-furling genoa, and a spinnaker. The mainsail and genoa were replaced in the last 10 years and have seen little use in that time. The spinnaker is in servicable conditin as well.

  • Roller Furling: A headsail furler on the forestay allows for quick and easy deployment and reefing of the genoa from the security of the cockpit, a crucial safety and convenience feature.

  • Dutchman flaking system and Jiffy reefing lines led back to the cockpit make the mainsail easier to manage.

  • Winches: The boat is well-equipped with Barient self-tailing winches, including a pair of powerful #24 two-speed primaries on the cockpit coamings for handling genoa sheets. Additional winches and banks of sheet clutches at the companionway allow for efficient sail management and trimming.

  • Spars & Rigging: The double-spreader anodized aluminum mast and boom are in fair and sound condition. The standing rigging is 1x19 stainless steel wire with swaged terminals and appears in serviceable condition. This is a proven, low-maintenance setup designed for reliability.

Domestic Equipment

Delphina is equipped for comfortable, self-sufficient cruising with comprehensive systems for cooking, climate control, and hygiene.

  • Galley: Features a gimballed Hillerange 2-burner LPG stove with oven, allowing for proper meal preparation at sea. A 12V DC refrigeration system converts the cabinet icebox, ensuring fresh food storage without relying on shore power.

  • Hot Water & Heating: A 6-gallon AC water heater provides ample hot water at the dock. For off-grid comfort, a diesel-fired Espar hydronic cabin heater delivers efficient and dry heat, making four-season cruising in the Pacific Northwest a cozy reality.

  • Heads & Showers: The head compartment includes a manual marine toilet, vanity, and sink. A 12V demand pressure water system supplies hot and cold water to the head, galley, and a dedicated hot/cold transom shower for rinsing off after a swim.

  • Propane system has an electrically controlled shut off valve and sniffer system that automatically closes the shut off valve at the tank, if propane is detected.

Electrical

A robust and well-set-up dual-system electrical panel manages both 12V DC and 120V AC power to run all onboard systems.

  • House Bank: Two 6V deep-cycle batteries provide power for daily living needs.

  • Starting Battery: A dedicated 12V battery ensures reliable engine starting.

  • Charging Options:

    • Shore Power: A TruePower 10-amp smart charger efficiently charges the batteries when connected to dock power.

    • Underway: The engine’s estimated 70-amp alternator provides swift recharge while sailing or motoring.

  • Protection & Safety: All circuits are breaker or fuse protected. The 30-amp shore power system includes a galvanic isolator, a critical device that protects the hull and underwater metals from corrosive stray currents when plugged in at marinas.

Navigation and Electronics

A usable suite of electronics provides the essential information for safe and confident navigation.

  • Chartplotter: A Standard Horizon GPS Chart 170C provides clear chart plotting and GPS positioning at the helm.

  • Instrumentation: A Simrad IS15 multi-display unit integrates depth sounder, knot meter, and wind speed/direction data, all crucial for informed sailing. Curenly not functioning.

  • Autopilot: An Autohelm 4000 autopilot reduces fatigue on long passages, allowing for single-handed sailing or relaxed cruising with crew.

  • Communications: A Kenyon RT80 Marine VHF radio ensures reliable communication with other vessels, marinas, and emergency services.

  • Steering: A Ritchie 6-inch spherical compass provides dependable backup steering guidance.

Ground Tackle

A robust and reliable anchoring system allows for secure and peaceful overnight stays.

  • Anchor: A trusted 15 kg (33 lb) CQR plow anchor offers excellent holding power in a variety of bottom conditions (mud, sand, weed).

  • Rode: A combination of adequate galvanized chain and nylon rode provides the right balance of weight on the bottom and shock absorption.

  • Windlass: A 12V Muir electric windlass (rebuilt in 2023) makes raising and lowering the anchor effortless and safe, a major benefit for shorthanded crews. The stainless steel bow roller ensures clean deployment and retrieval.

  • Spare Danforth anchor with chain and rode

Mechanical

The auxiliary power is provided by a proven and economical marine diesel engine.

  • Engine: A 27hp Yanmar 3GM30F 3-cylinder diesel engine provides more than adequate power for propulsion and battery charging. It is fresh-water cooled via a heat exchanger for greater efficiency and longevity.

  • Drive Train: Engine power is transmitted through a Yanmar KM3P gearbox (2.61:1 reduction) to a 1-inch stainless steel shaft. The PSS dripless shaft seal minimizes bilge water. A new cutlass bearing was installed in 2024, ensuring smooth and vibration-free operation.

  • Propeller: A 2-blade bronze propeller (17x11) offers a good balance of motoring performance and sailing efficiency with minimal drag.

  • Fuel System: Features a 22 US gallon (83 L) plastic tank and a fuel/water separator with a sediment bowl for clean fuel and reliable engine operation.

  • Suzuki 6hp outboard (no tender)
