2003 Hunter 356

Introduction

About the 2003 Hunter 356

Easy and fun. That’s what this boat is all about. It’s easy to sail with its in-mast furled mainsail and roller-furling genoa. It’s fun to sail because it’s responsive with its fin keel and large spade rudder. It’s easy to move about with its wide and open decks. It’s fun to entertain on with seating for eight in the cockpit and sleeps seven. It’s easy to cook in with its well-designed galley. It’s easy to board from the tender with the sugar scoop transom and walkthrough into the cockpit. It’s also beautiful with teak and holly soles, soft navy-blue upholstery, and an abundance of light.

We see so many Hunters in these waters for good reason. In summer’s fickle wind, it’s the perfect boat in light air, and has lots of covered space for lounging and entertaining.

The LORA RAE is a particularly good purchase because all of her standing and running rigging were replaced in 2017. The mast, boom, vang, running and standing rigging – everything – was professionally replaced to be better-than-new. In addition to that, the engine has only 800 hours on it. The Yanmar 3GM30F has a reputation for being reliable, easy to find parts for, and with wide-open 3-sided access, maintenance is a very simple matter. This engine will last a long, long time.

  • Newer mast, standing and running rigging (2017)

  • In mast furling

  • Full cockpit enclosure

  • Walk-through transom

  • Diesel heating

  • Spacious and bright interior

  • Two-cabin layout

  • Assumable moorage in Nanaimo with management approval.

LORA RAE is a sporty, comfy, boat destined for many, many fun adventures. If you want to have a look at her, just give us a call.

Layout & Description

OUTSIDE

  • The hull has a raked bow, round turn of bilge, external fin keel, and spade rudder

  • Walk-through reverse transom stern, with a dropdown transom gate, storage here too

  • The hull is solid fibreglass below the waterline and cored above the waterline, as is the deck.

  • The cabin is a balsa core sandwich

  • The cockpit is enclosed with a canvas/clear acrylic dodger and bimini cover on a stainless-steel framework

  • Navy-blue canvas on dodger, bimini, bridge, and UV strips for both sails. The bridge has large vinyl windows so it can remain in place even when sailing.

  • Stainless steel handrails

  • Sliding companionway hatch with drop boards

  • Escape hatches forward

  • Fixed acrylic lenses in cabin sides

  • Hinged acrylic lenses in plastic casements in cabin sides and main cabin deck head

  • Hinged escape hatches in “V” berth & main cabin

  • Non-skid on all horizontal surfaces

  • Cockpit shower to get the salt out of your hair

  • Massive lazarette

You can tell a Hunter from a distance due to its sleek lines, side windows, and swept-back spreaders. The decks are clean with several hatches, deck access chain locker, and several windows along the cabin sides. Lines are led aft for easy single-handing. The transom is a sugar scoop, which makes it so easy to board from the tender.

The cockpit can spaciously seat eight for dinner around a lovely cockpit table. There is a folding wheel behind the pedestal. There is a massive lazarette to port. The companionway is centerline.

INSIDE

  • Full fiberglass liner forming bases for settees, toilet compartment, and cabinetry

  • Teak-faced bulkheads, panelling and cabinetry, drawer faces, and doors

  • Cabin sole has teak & holly overlay with access panels

  • Moulded-plastic-insert deckhead

  • Arborite countertops

  • Soft fabric upholstered cushions

Dropping into the cabin, the galley is to the immediate starboard. There is ample countertop for food prep, even with the top-loading fridge/freezer and cleverly placed garbage bin. The double SS sink is close to the centerline. The 2-burner stove with oven is alongside the hull.

Aft of the galley with its own door is the aft cabin. There is a changing seat and two hanging lockers. The bunk is a generous queen that lies athwartship. There is some storage between the headboard and hull, and a countertop that runs aft of the bunk, also athwartship.

To port of the companionway is a door to the head. It has an electric toilet, a vanity, and a self-contained shower stall for easy cleanup.

Forward of the head is an aft facing nav table with electronics and instruments. Forward of that is a bench settee. Opposite that, to starboard, is a C-shaped settee surrounding a table. The table can drop down into a double bunk. The settees are covered with soft navy-blue material that is in good condition.

Forward of the saloon is the V-berth with two hanging lockers and a double bunk.

Overall, the boat has a clean, warm and traditional vibe. The galley is easy to work in with lots of storage. The main cabin is comfortable and social. It’s also very bright with all the windows and hatches surrounding. It’s a great place to gather, rain or shine. The cabins are both comfortable with NEW foam on the main berth. With this much comfort after a fantastic day of sailing, a hearty meal, and the gentle rocking of the boat at anchor, you’ll sleep like a baby.
