Introduction

About the 1982 Ocean Alexander Europa 40

Beautiful. Strong. Efficient. Ocean Alexander.

The owners would love to fill the tanks and head to Alaska this season (without refuelling) but the time has come to sell. Boathouse kept for most of her life this Ocean 40 is well loved, well maintained and has everything you need for cruising.

The Europa design provides excellent coverage with its walk-around, covered side decks, ideal for cruising in the Pacific Northwest. Made at a time when hulls were thick and teak was used liberally, this is a strong hull with high-quality teak woodwork that Ocean Alexander is known for.

Some of the main highlights are

  • Huge upper deck for entertaining. Larger than most 50’ boats.

  • Sedan-style main cabin with cockpit, salon, galley and lower helm all on one level

  • Centerline island queen in the forward cabin with closets and shelf storage

  • Guest cabin with bunks and a large head with a separate shower stall and sit-tub

  • Webasto diesel forced air heating for comfortable cruising on the north coast

  • Propane stove and oven for reliable cooking with no power draw

  • Lewmar bow thruster to help around the docks

Come and see her inside her boathouse in Maple Bay. Boathouse moorage may be available in Maple Bay for purchasers.

Layout & Description

Flybridge: To starboard is the upper helm with a lovely wooden wheel and captain’s seat. Instruments and a small windscreen are in front. To port is the companion seat. Aft of that is an aft-facing L-shaped settee with a table. Aft of the captain’s seat is a storage cabinet, followed by…nothing. It’s amazing. Throw a party and this is your dance floor (10-12 people have played up there!). Wake up and this is your yoga studio. Or put some chairs in (ok, they’re already there, but you can tuck them away for the disco). The whole area is light- and dark-blue upholstery in exceptionally good condition. A bimini can be pulled out for coverage.

Lower deck: The master stateroom with its island queen bed is forward. This means no one has to climb over someone to get into/out of bed. There are hanging lockers with automatic lights, on both sides and a full mirror for dressing. There are massive amounts of clothing storage in lockers and drawers. Immediately aft, the second cabin is on the port side and outfitted with bunks and a hanging locker. To starboard is the head, complete with a shower stall with a sit-tub. Steps lead up to the main deck.

Main deck: From the lower deck steps looking aft, there is the lower helm to starboard. It is fully functional with all the equipment necessary to keep you safe and sound. Behind the helm is the Norcold fridge and freezer. Aft of that are cupboards that run low along the hull, beneath the large windows. To port, immediately next to the stairs, is the galley. This is U-shaped and functional with cupboards overhead, a large stove/oven, a double centerline sink, and a shelf forward, with windows facing forward and to the port. It’s surrounded by light and close to the action.

Aft of the galley is a C-shaped settee that can sit six easily. It makes into a bed, sleeping two. The upholstery is in excellent condition, just like the rest of the boat. There are two huge windows facing aft towards the cockpit, with a door in between them.

Cockpit/Outer Decks: From the cockpit, you can access either side deck that leads to the foredeck, or you can drop into the lazarette, or you can ascend the ladder to the flybridge. The decks are well-finished teak for a long life. There are gates on each side of the vessel for easy access for humans or pets. The foredeck has three hatches and a strong windlass. There is ample space there for lounging and ship maneuvers.
